Luke
9:12-17
It's
hard to keep a low profie when 5000 people are following Jesus around. But
it's not long before Jesus would forget about his need for quiet time and
lose himself in their needs: for teaching and for healing, and for food.
Who do you relate to in this story?
Are you the hungry crowd who is hungry for more than food, but for what Jesus has to offer? Are you looking for healing and some new ideas on how to deal with old lingering problems?
Are you the doubfounded disciples who have been charged with the inredulous task of feeding the crowd? "You are kidding me?" they look at each other. "Where are we going to get that kind of cash?"
Are you the little boy who simple mindedly offers up his little box lunch - two sardines and 5 dinner rolls. "Hope it helps," he generously hands them over.
1500 years earlier, God also fed a crowd in the wilderness by dropping food from the sky. Here, Jesus re-enacts that miracle. He takes the little boy's lunch, blesses it, breaks it up, and returns the morsels to the people. Somewhere in the process, he transforms a little boy's lunch into something that satisfies a crowd, with leftover to spare - 12 basketful, enough for another country with 12 tribes.
What do we have that God can take, bless, break, and then return as a blessing for people?
