Read: James 1:22-26

Just as our angry words can powerfully alter someone's life in a negative way, God's instructions can powerfully alter our lives - if we cooperate with God's Spirit.

James says God's instructions really act as a mirror - they show us the truth about who we are, what we are doing to the people around us, and how we can be different.

To just pay lip service to God's wisdom is like having amnesia: we see who we are, we strive to do better, and then we just forget about it. God cannot help us if we have amnesia.

But for those of us who trust God's wisdom and live it out, there is a blessing - in the life to come when God puts that gold medal around us at the end of the race, as well as in this life with improved relationship with others.

And God tells us to hold our tongues.
