Read: Exodus 17:8-16

The Amaleks are some sort of nomadic bully.  It's not clear why God is so angered by them that he vows to wipe them off from existence.  We will have to ask God when we see him.

But from the perspective of the bullied, it is good news to be on God's side.  Once God commits himself to a people, he means business.

There will be more wars in the Hebrews' future. And for the first time, we meet Joshua who will lead the Hebrews into those battles.

There is an interesting insight about the way God works.  Clearly, the Hebrews are not trained for war, and it is God's power who is making it remotely a fair fight. Yet for some reason, God chooses to involve Moses in the whole equation by having him hold up his arms.  For some reason, God metered his power by how high Moses holds up his arm.  And when Moses tired, he needed Aaron and Hur to assist him.

God doesn't need Moses to fight Pharaoh, and God doesn't need him or the Hebrews to battle the Amaleks.  But in his wisdom, he makes room for them to take part in the who enterprise.  What's more, he makes it necessary for Moses to work with a team.

God, it would seem, believes in teams.  He works together with us. And he expects us to work together with each other.  It's not necessary and it's not efficient.  But it's how God wants things to work.

Think about your faith story: how have you experienced how God involves you in the way he works, and how have you experienced the way he works through teams?

in your life presently, how is God involving you in what he is doing in the world?

Who are the people he has teamed you up with to do what he is doing in the world?

Pray
What is God saying to you today? What's Good News to you?

Talk to God about the ways he has partnered you in his work, and the way he has partnered you with others.  Thank God for the way he does not abandon you to watch helplessly, or to go it alone without him or others.

Pray about what God is doing through you.  Ask God for the help you need, the reassureance of his presence, and the courage to cooperate with God.

Pray for the people God has teamed you up with.  Ask God to give you the insights to work effectively together.

Pray for an experience of God's love, grace and mercy in the way he is on your side, and the way he partners with you and you with others.
